Seville is a welcoming and enjoyable city for children, with many possibilities.
There are not many specific instructions for visiting Seville with children. Possibly the most significant is the heat in the summer, which should be factored in when dressing them, also remembering to stay well hydrated and avoid the central hours of the day … On hot days you can opt for cooling attractions such as water parks, Isla Mágica and hotels that have a pool.
Apart from that, Seville is a safe city with many pedestrian areas, although there are also many bike lanes that can be somewhat dangerous if crossed suddenly. Always pay attention.
Eating with children
There are hundreds of options for good food in Seville, from typical bars to fast-food franchises. They are everywhere. We recommend tapas because they are smaller and more varied. Croquettes, montaítos (open sandwiches), sirloins, fried fish, chacinas (cold meats)…
Many restaurants offer kid-friendly options, such as croquettes, patatas bravas, and fried calamari.
Most interesting attractions for children
All the attractions or monuments can be interesting for children if they are well thought out, but there are obviously some more suitable or striking places that can become authentic places of adventure and learning:
Alcazar of Seville: this can be approached as what it is, the residence of kings and princesses, from the Moors to the present day. The gardens are beautifully landscaped and there are animals such as peacocks and ducks roaming around. There are fish in the ponds. You must always follow the rules, but there are people who bring pieces of bread to feed the wildlife, making for some fun times.
Cathedral/Giralda: the Cathedral is perhaps a bit dry, although it can be nice to hear the organ if you are lucky and it happens to be playing at the time. Perhaps the highlight of the visit is the climb up to the Giralda, which is quite an adventure and has great views.
Museum of Fine Arts: Painting and children seem a complex relationship, but you can focus the visit on Murillo’s works, which are pleasant and feature many children among their characters. Parents can prepare something about them, for example, the famous painting of the Virgen de la servilleta (Virgin of the napkin). Paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries can also be interesting: bandits, bullfighters and gypsies.
Navigation Pavilion: Ideal attraction for children, with many audiovisuals related to the Spanish discovery of America. There are games and they usually have lego exhibitions and similar themes. You can climb a spectacular lookout tower and the Torre Sevilla shopping centre is nearby.
Maria Luisa Park: perhaps the best option for children. It is a large park, with a thousand beautiful corners, animals and activities: you can hire a boat in the Plaza de España canal or a pedal vehicle to tour the park.
There are also ducks and swans delighted to receive some breadcrumbs and the famous pigeons of the Plaza de América. There are little seed shops to feed pigeons. Be careful because if they are hungry they may climb on your shoulder or head.
